Festung Ehrenbreitstein: Koblenz, Germany
Directly across the Rhine river from the Deutsches Eck is a
hill called Festung Ehrenbreitstein with a fortress of the
same name. Portions of fortification date back as far as
1000 BC. Around 1000 AD Ehrenbert erected a castle which was
later destroyed by the French in 1801. The fortress and buildings
seen here are also part of Koblenz, which spans both sides of the
river.
